I got this book 3 days ago and couldnt put it down (well olny for school and work)it has great ingight tio the world of law inforcment and the people (dirty liberals and civil rights goofballs)who try to make a police officer’s job harder . great book wish there was a police academy prequil

I was excited when I bought this at Amazon, hoping to get an in depth look at the Gangs and the history of L.A. Instead, I was treated to a barrage of one-on-one interviews with “former” gang bangers, and their portrayal of what it was and is to be Black and segregated. The fact this whole film was dedicated to blaming Large corporations for deserting Black Families and leaving them no other choice but to become Criminals, left a bad taste in my mouth. The up side to this movie is that their were a few instances in which the truth about innocent bystanders being caught in the crossfire were brought to light. Overall, it starts out promising, but becomes monotonous after about 20 minutes.

I agree with the other reviewers. This was a very good book – so good I read it straight through in 3 days because I couldn’t put it down. I was surprised at the job related hardships the author had to tolerate such as being forced to rotate shifts and constant evaluations for a year. Who can’t relate to being chewed out for something or tolerating abuse from a bully as a new employee. I also found the author’s perspective on the rodney king (lower caps intended) fiasco very enlightening. Throughout the book I alternated between wanting to be a cop and thinking it was such a tough job I didn’t know why anybody would be one. The author did a very effective job at helping this ex-Detroiter to understand police work in an urban environment.

A trend of abuser repairing the damage has become apparent, I hope he is given no place solving problems. Because that would be encouragement for lazy kids (with help from lazy parents) to attempt their lives in stages similar to his, and others.
